Ezekiel 43

3 to destroy the city. That is, to predict its destruction.

6. I heard [Him] speaking. Rather, “I heard one speaking, etc.

the man. Rather, “a man” (R.V.). Probably another messenger from God.

7 nor by the carcasses of their kings. This perhaps alludes to the burial of some of the kings, close to or perhaps even within the Temple area, which was regarded as a profanation.

8 and the wall between me and them. R.V., “and there was [but] the wall between me and them.” The palace of the kings, where idolatry was practised, was separated by only this slight partition from the Temple of the true God.

13 the bottom. Either the hollowed base of the altar, or the cavity for the fire.

14 the lower settle. Or, “ledge”; perhaps for standing upon.

15 the altar. “Ariel,” translated “altar,” in the next clause and the next verse: cp. Isa. xxix. 1.

18. These are the ordinances of the altar, etc. The rites to be observed, not stately, but on the day of the altar’s dedication.
