Daily Cheer for All the Year

Every one of us shall give account of himself to God.—ROM. xiv, 12.

Think naught a trifle, though it small appear;

Small sands the mountains, moments make the year,

And trifles life.

YOUNG.

The day will come when men have grace

To know themselves, and sometimes take

A humble task, a lowly place,

And use it well for honor's sake.

MARIANNE FARNINGHAM.

We are too fond of our own will. We want to be doing what we fancy mighty things; but the great point is to do small things, when called to them, in a right spirit.

R. CECIL.

The course of life is a thousand trifles, then some crisis, and again a thousand trifles and a crisis; nothing but green leaves under common sun and shadow, and then a storm or a rare June day. And far more than the storm or the perfect day the common sun and common shadow do to make the autumn rich. It is the "every days" that count. They must be made to tell, or the years have failed.
