And so it must certainly be true, somehow or other, that self-culture and self-sacrifice are not

merely capable of being reconciled to one another by compromises which they shall make between them, but that they are mutual ministers to one another, and that the more truly a man sacrifices himself to others, the more truly shall he live in his own life; the more truly he lives in his own life, the more truly shall he be a sacrifice to his fellow men.
