Evil-speaking, as addressed in the Bible, refers to the act of speaking negatively or slanderously about others, and is considered a sinful behavior that can cause harm to individuals and damage relationships within the Christian community. According to Ephesians 4:31, believers are instructed to put away "all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking" in order to maintain a spirit of kindness and compassion towards one another. The Bible also warns that those who engage in evil-speaking will face judgment, as noted in James 1:26, which states that "if anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this person's religion is worthless." Additionally, Colossians 3:8 advises Christians to put off "filthy language" and other forms of evil-speaking, instead choosing to speak graciously and kindly to one another.
