Ezekiel 7
BSA1 And the word [message from God, divine communication] of the LORD [Yehovah] came [was given, arrived] to me, saying [to speak, to command, to declare], word study 2 “O son [human, descendant] of man [Adam, the first human], this is what the Lord [Adonay, God of reverence] GOD [Yehovah] says to the land [earth, soil, territory] of Israel [Jacob’s descendants, God’s chosen people]: ‘The end [conclusion, extremity]! The end [finality, last part] has come [arrived, reached] upon the four [complete, entire] corners [extremities, borders] of the land [country, region]. word study 3 The end [final conclusion, extremity] is now [at this time, currently] upon you, and I will unleash [send, direct] My anger [wrath] against you. I will judge [vindicate, govern] you according to your ways [path, manner of life] and repay [recompense, punish] you for all [every, everything] your abominations [disgusting acts, idolatry]. word study 4 I will not look [have no pity or compassion] on you with pity [or show mercy], nor will I spare [or have mercy on] you, but I will punish [bring judgment upon] you for your ways [actions and behaviors] and for the abominations [detestable and disgusting practices] among you. Then you will know [understand and recognize] that I am the LORD [Yehovah, the one true God].’ word study 5 This is what the Lord [Adonay, a title of reverence] GOD [Yehovah] says: ‘Disaster [an evil, a calamity]! An unprecedented [one, a unique] disaster [affliction, distress] — behold [look, see], it is coming [approaching, coming near]! word study 6 The end [finality, conclusion] has come! The end [termination, culmination] has come! It has roused [awakened, stirred up] itself against you [toward, in the direction of]. Behold [look, see], it has come [approached, arrived]! word study 7 Doom [destruction, judgment] has come to you, O inhabitants [dwellers, residents] of the land [earth, territory]. The time [appointed hour, season] has come; the day [judgment day, time of reckoning] is near [at hand, approaching]; there is panic [tumult, confusion] on the mountains [hills, high places] instead of shouts [joyful cries, triumphant sounds] of joy [celebration, rejoicing]. word study 8 Very soon [in a little time, shortly] I will pour out [shed, spill forth] My wrath [intense anger, rage] upon you and vent [fully express, unleash] My anger [indignation, fury] against you; I will judge [vindicate, govern] you according to your ways [paths, manner of life] and repay [recompense, punish] you for all [every one of] your abominations [detestable acts, disgusting sins]. word study 9 I will not look [with pity or compassion] on you with pity [or have mercy], nor will I spare [show mercy or leniency] you, but I will punish [recompense or judge] you for your ways [actions, behaviors, or manner of life] and for the abominations [detestable or disgusting practices] among you. Then you will know [understand, recognize, or acknowledge] that it is I, the LORD [Yehovah, the self-existent God], who strikes [smites or inflicts punishment] the blow. word study 10 Behold [look, see], the day [a period of time, a season of judgment] is here! It has come [arrived, is present]! Doom [destruction, the diadem of judgment] has gone out [been issued, proclaimed], the rod [staff] has budded [sprouted, blossomed], arrogance [pride, insolence] has bloomed [flourished, come into full expression]. word study 11 Their violence [cruelty, injustice] has grown into a rod [staff] to punish their wickedness [wrong, immoral actions]. None of them will remain: none of their multitude [large crowd, turmoil], none of their wealth [abundance, riches], and nothing of value [eminency, importance]. word study 12 The time [appointed moment, season] has come; the day [appointed time, era] has arrived. Let the buyer [one who acquires, purchaser] not rejoice [be glad, celebrate] and the seller [one who gives or offers something for sale] not mourn [lament, grieve], for wrath [burning anger, fierce indignation] is upon the whole [entire, all] multitude [crowd, assembly]. word study 13 The seller [trader, one who exchanges goods] will surely not recover [get back, regain] what he sold [exchanged, transferred ownership] while both [the seller and the buyer] remain alive [are still living, have physical life]. For the vision [prophetic revelation, divine insight] concerning the whole multitude [all the people, the entire crowd] will not be revoked [canceled, withdrawn], and because of their iniquity [moral evil, sin] [perversity], not one of them will preserve [keep, protect] his life [existence, vitality]. word study 14 They have blown [to sound a loud blast] the trumpet [a blast wind instrument] and made [to establish, set up] everything ready, but no one [none, not a single person] goes [to walk, proceed] to war [battle, conflict], for My wrath [burning anger, fierce indignation] is upon [directed towards] the whole [all, entire] multitude [crowd, large group]. word study 15 The sword [cutting instrument, knife] is outside [beyond the city walls]; plague [disease, pestilence] and famine [hunger, lack of food] are within [inside the city]. Those in the country [field, rural area] will die by the sword [be killed by armed attack], and those in the city [town, urban area] will be devoured by famine [starvation, lack of nourishment] and plague [pestilence, disease]. word study 16 The survivors [refugees, fugitives] will escape [slip out, flee] and live [exist, dwell] in the mountains [hills], moaning [mourning, making a loud noise] like doves [pigeons] of the valley [deep, narrow gorge], each [every individual, man] for his own [personal, unique] iniquity [moral evil, sin]. word study 17 Every [all, each] hand [an open hand; strength, a side or share] will go limp [become feeble, weak as water], and every [all] knee will turn to [become like, flow like] water [a source of refreshment]. word study 18 They will put on [coarse, mourning] sackcloth, and [deep, overwhelming] terror [fear, horror] will overwhelm them [Guilt, embarrassment]. Shame will cover all their faces, and all their heads will be [completely, utterly] shaved [bald, without hair]. word study 19 They will throw their silver [like worthless garbage] into the streets, and their gold [will be as an unclean thing, impure] will seem unclean. Their silver and gold [cannot deliver them, will not be able to rescue] cannot save them in the day [of the Lord’s wrath, a time of fury] of the wrath of the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God]. They [will not satisfy their souls, cannot fill their inner being] cannot satisfy their appetites or fill their stomachs [their bellies, their innermost needs] with wealth, for it [their wealth, their riches] became the stumbling block [a hindrance, an obstacle] that brought their iniquity [their sin, their moral evil]. word study 20 His beautiful ornaments [adornments, jewels] they transformed into [arrogant] pride [excellence, majesty] and used them to fashion their vile [detestable, disgusting] images [idols, likenesses] and detestable [abominable, filthy] idols [statues, figures]. Therefore I will make these into something unclean [impure, defiled] for them. word study 21 And I will hand [give, put, or set] these things over as [for the purpose of] plunder [spoil, booty] to foreigners [strangers, non-Israelites] and loot [plunder, spoil] to the wicked [morally wrong, bad people] of the earth [land, ground], who will defile [profane, pollute] them. word study 22 I will turn [away, avert] My face [presence, countenance] away from them, and they will defile [profane, pollute] My treasured [secret, hidden] place [sanctuary, temple]. Violent [destructive, robber] men will enter [come into, invade] it, and they will defile [desecrate, profane] it. word study 23 Forge [make, prepare] the chain [bondage, restraint], for the land [country, territory] is full [complete, filled to capacity] of crimes [judgments, bloody deeds] of bloodshed [violence, shedding of blood], and the city [town, urban area] is full [filled, overflowing] of violence [cruelty, injustice]. word study 24 So I will bring the most [extremely] wicked [bad, evil] of nations [Gentiles, heathen] to take possession [occupy, control] of their houses [dwelling places, homes]. I will end [cause to cease, stop] the pride [majesty, arrogance] of the mighty [strong, powerful], and their holy [consecrated, sacred] places [sanctuaries, temples] will be profaned [defiled, desecrated]. word study 25 Anguish [intense fear, terror] is coming [approaching, drawing near]! They will seek [search for, look for] peace [completeness, wellness, shalom], but find [discover, come upon] none [nothing, no peace at all]. word study 26 Disaster [calamity, mischief] upon disaster [misfortune, ruin] will come, and rumor [tidings, report] after rumor [news, announcement]. Then they will seek [search for, ask] a vision [revelation, prophecy] from a prophet [one who speaks for God], but instruction [law, guidance] from the priests [spiritual leaders, mediators] will perish [be destroyed, lost], as will counsel [advice, wisdom] from the elders [respected leaders, wise ones]. word study 27 The king [ruler, monarch] will mourn [lament, grieve], the prince [leader, high-ranking official] will be clothed with [wrapped in, covered by] despair [desolation, hopelessness], and the hands [power, strength] of the people [nation, community] of the land [earth, territory] will tremble [be troubled, shaken]. I will deal with them according to their conduct [way, behavior], and I will judge them by their own standards [justice, judgments]. Then they will know [understand, recognize] that I am the LORD [Yehovah, God].’” word study
