Psalms 147

1 Hallelujah [praise the Lord]! How good [beneficial, pleasant] it is to sing [make music, celebrate] praises to our God [Elohim, the supreme Creator], how pleasant [sweet, lovely] and lovely [beautiful, comely] to praise [give thanks, honor] Him! word study 2 The LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] builds up [rebuilds, establishes] Jerusalem [the city of peace]; He gathers [collects, brings together] the exiles [outcasts, scattered ones] of Israel [the descendants of Jacob]. word study 3 He heals [makes whole, restores] the brokenhearted [those shattered in spirit, with broken emotions] and binds up [ties, wraps, or bandages] their wounds [injuries, sorrow, or pain]. word study 4 He determines [counts, appoints, knows] the number [quantity, total] of the stars [celestial bodies, heavenly hosts]; He calls [telleth, summons] them each [all, every one] by name [their identity, designation]. word study 5 Great [in magnitude and majesty] is our Lord [the supreme Master], and mighty [abundant, very powerful] in power [strength]; His understanding [insight, wisdom] has no [infinite, without] limit [bound, narrative, mispar]. word study 6 The LORD [Yehovah, the Lord of all] sustains [upholds, supports] the humble [meek, poor in spirit], but casts [brings down, abases] the wicked [morally wrong, guilty of sin] to the ground [the earth, the land]. word study 7 Sing [with joyful praise, answer] to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] with thanksgiving [praise, worship]; make music [sing praises, play] on the harp [lyre] to our God [Elohim, the supreme God], word study 8 who covers [with clouds, as a sign of His presence] the sky [heaven, the visible universe] with clouds [dark clouds], who prepares [establishes, sets up] rain [water from the sky, a blessing] for the earth [land, the soil], who makes [causes to spring, to grow] grass [green vegetation, a type of plant] to grow [to spring up, to flourish] on the hills [mountains, a high place]. word study 9 He provides [gives, puts, or sets] food [nourishment, bread, or grain] for the animals [beasts, livestock, or wild creatures], and for the young [sons, descendants, or offspring] ravens [dark-colored birds] when they [which, those that] call [cry out, shout, or cry]. word study 10 He does not [in no way] delight [take pleasure, find joy] in the strength [might, power] of the horse [chariot horse, swift steed]; He takes no pleasure [does not accept, finds no joy] in the legpower [legs, lower limbs] of the man [human, mortal]. word study 11 The LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] is pleased [accepts, delights in] with those who fear [reverence, are afraid of] Him, who hope [wait, trust] in His loving devotion [kindness, mercy, lovingkindness]. word study 12 Exalt [praise, glorify] the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God], O Jerusalem [the city of peace]; praise [commend, celebrate] your God [Elohim, the supreme God], O Zion [the mountain and city]! word study 13 For [because of this reason] He strengthens [makes strong, secures] the bars [iron bands, bolts] of your gates [city entrances, doors] and blesses [praises, honors] the children [sons, descendants] within [in the midst of, inside] you. word study 14 He makes [brings about, establishes] peace [shalom, completeness and wellness] at your borders [boundaries, territories]; He fills [satisfies, abundantly supplies] you with the finest [best, choicest] wheat [grain, food]. word study 15 He sends forth [dispatches, releases] His command [orders, decrees] to the earth [land, territory]; His word [utterance, declaration] runs [moves swiftly, rushes] swiftly [with haste, quickly]. word study 16 He spreads [gives, sends out] the snow [like white wool] like wool; He scatters [disperses, throws] the frost [hoar-frost, ice-drops] like ashes [dust, worthless things]; word study 17 He casts forth [sends down, hurls] His hail [ice, frost] like pebbles [morsels, small stones]. Who [what person, anyone] can withstand [stand before, endure] His icy blast [cold, frost, extreme chill]? word study 18 He sends forth [dispatches, releases] His word [divine command, decree] and melts [dissolves, liquefies] them; He unleashes [sends out, blows] His winds [a blast of air], and the waters [liquid, flood] flow [run, pour out]. word study 19 He declares [tells openly, makes known] His word [divine message, thing] to Jacob [Israel, the chosen people], His statutes [decrees, laws] and judgments [justice, ordinances] to Israel [the descendants of Jacob]. word study 20 He has done [not dealt] this for no [none, not one] other nation [Gentile, non-Hebrew people]; they do not know [are unaware of, have not learned] His judgments [ordinances, laws, justice].
