Psalms 80
BSA1 Hear us [give ear, listen to], O Shepherd [Leader, Guide] of Israel [God’s chosen people], who leads [guides, directs] Joseph like a flock [a group of sheep, the tribe of Joseph]; You who sit [dwell, reside] enthroned [in a position of power] between the cherubim [heavenly creatures, winged beings], shine forth [let your glory be seen, radiate your presence] word study 2 before Ephraim [a tribe of Israel], Benjamin [a tribe of Israel], and Manasseh [a tribe of Israel]. Rally [stir up, awaken] Your mighty [powerful, strong] power [strength, might] and come [appear, manifest] to save [rescue, deliver] us. word study 3 Restore [turn us again, take us back] us, O God [the supreme Creator, Almighty], and cause Your face [presence, being in front of You] to shine [be kind to us, let us see the shining of Your face] upon us, that we may be saved [delivered from trouble, experience salvation, victory]. word study 4 O LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] God [Elohim, the supreme Ruler] of Hosts [armies of heaven], how long will Your anger [burning wrath, indignation] smolder [continue, abide] against the prayers [requests, supplications] of Your people [faithful ones, congregation]? word study 5 You fed them with the bread [of sorrow, tears to eat] of tears and made them drink [in great measure, to the full] the full measure [a large amount, abundance] of their tears [sorrow, weeping]. word study 6 You make us [a source of strife, a cause of war] contend with our neighbors [those surrounding us, our enemies nearby]; our enemies [those who hate us, our foes] mock us [laugh among themselves, scorn us]. word study 7 Restore [turn us again, take us back] us, O God [of armies, commander of heaven’s hosts] of Hosts, and cause Your face [with favor and kindness] to shine upon us, that we may be saved [rescued, delivered from harm]. word study 8 You uprooted [brought out, carried] a vine [grapevine] from Egypt [a place of bondage]; You drove out [cast out, expelled] the nations [heathen, other people-groups] and transplanted [planted] it [in their land]. word study 9 You cleared [prepared, made ready] the ground [land, soil] for it [the vine], and it took [caused to take, enabled to take] root [deep root, to establish itself] and filled [spread out, prospered in] the land [the entire region, the promised land]. word study 10 The mountains [hills, rugged terrain] were covered by its shade [shadow, protective covering], and the mighty [goodly, majestic] cedars [like God’s cedars] with its branches [boughs, sprawling limbs]. word study 11 It sent out its branches [to the farthest west, as far as the Mediterranean Sea] to the Sea, and its shoots toward [toward the east, as far as the Euphrates River] the River. word study 12 Why have You [then, for what reason] broken down [torn apart, destroyed] its walls [hedges, fences], so that all who pass by [travelers, wayfarers] pick [pluck, gather] its fruit [harvest, produce]? word study 13 The boar [wild pig, from the woods] from the forest [wilderness, wooded area] ravages [wastes, destroys] it, and the creatures [wild beasts, animals] of the field [open country, pasture] feed [eat, devour] upon it. word study 14 Return [turn back to us], O God [Elohim, commander of the armies of heaven] of Hosts, we pray [beseech thee]! Look down [see what’s happening to us] from heaven and see [behold, and visit]! Attend to [visit, care for, and rescue] this vine— word study 15 the root [vine, stock] Your right hand has planted [established, caused to grow], the son [branch, young vine] You have raised up [made strong, nurtured] for Yourself [Your own glory, Your purpose]. word study 16 Your vine [a plant shoot or vineyard] has been cut down [burnt with fire] and burned; they perish [are made waste] at the rebuke [wrath] of Your countenance [face, presence]. word study 17 Let Your hand [of protection and guidance] be upon the man [son of man, chosen one] at Your right hand, on the son of man [whom You have strengthened, made strong] You have raised up [established, exalted] for Yourself. word study 18 Then we will not turn away [go back, depart] from You; revive [quicken, give new life] us, and we will call [pray, worship] on Your [thy] name [character, reputation]. word study 19 Restore [turn us again, take us back] us, O LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] God [Elohim, the supreme Commander] of Hosts [armies, heavenly forces]; cause Your face [presence, countenance] to shine [be kind to us, smile upon us] upon us, that we may be saved [rescued, delivered, have life]. word study
