Context — The Golden Calf
29Afterward, Moses said, “Today you have been ordained for service to the LORD, since each man went against his son and his brother; so the LORD has bestowed a blessing on you this day.”
30The next day Moses said to the people, “You have committed a great sin. Now I will go up to the LORD; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.” 31So Moses returned to the LORD and said, “Oh, what a great sin these people have committed! They have made gods of gold for themselves.Cross References

Exodus 32:29 Summary
[This verse means that the Levites were set apart to serve God after they obeyed His command to slay those who had sinned against Him. They showed that they loved and were committed to God more than their own family and friends, which is what Jesus teaches in Matthew 10:37. By their actions, the Levites were ordained for service to God and received a blessing from Him, as seen in Exodus 32:29. This verse reminds us that our loyalty to God should always come first, even when it's hard or difficult, just like it was for the Levites.]
