12A third of your people will die by plague or be consumed by famine within you, a third will fall by the sword outside your walls, and a third I will scatter to every wind and unleash a sword behind them. 13And when My anger is spent and I have vented My wrath against them, I will be appeased. And when I have spent My wrath on them, they will know that I, the LORD, in My zeal have spoken.Cross References

Ezekiel 5:11 Summary
[Ezekiel 5:11 means that God is very sad and upset when we put other things before Him and do not honor Him as holy, as seen in Exodus 20:3-5. When we do this, He may withdraw His favor and blessing from our lives, as a form of discipline to bring us back to Himself. This is not because He does not love us, but because He wants us to understand the seriousness of our actions and to return to Him with repentant hearts, as seen in 1 John 1:9 and Jeremiah 31:18-20. By recognizing our sin and turning back to God, we can experience His mercy and restoration, as promised in Deuteronomy 30:1-3.]
Frequently Asked Questions
What does it mean to defile God's sanctuary with detestable idols and abominations?
This refers to the act of introducing false worship and sinful practices into the place where God is supposed to be honored, as seen in Ezekiel 5:11, which is a violation of God's commands in Exodus 20:3-5 and Deuteronomy 12:31.
Why does God say He will not look upon them with pity or spare them?
This is because God's people had repeatedly rejected His warnings and continued in their sinful ways, leading to a point where God's judgment was necessary, as seen in Ezekiel 5:11 and supported by Jeremiah 13:10.
Is God's withdrawal of favor a permanent condition?
No, while God's judgment is severe, it is not permanent, as seen in Ezekiel 5:11, and is intended to bring His people back to repentance, as stated in Deuteronomy 30:1-3 and Jeremiah 31:18-20.
How does this verse relate to the concept of God's holiness?
This verse highlights God's holiness and His desire to be separate from sin, as seen in Leviticus 11:44-45 and Isaiah 6:1-5, and demonstrates that He will not tolerate the defilement of His sanctuary or the disobedience of His people.
