Context — Seventy Years of Captivity
4And the LORD has sent all His servants the prophets to you again and again, but you have not listened or inclined your ear to hear.
5The prophets told you, ‘Turn now, each of you, from your evil ways and deeds, and you can dwell in the land that the LORD has given to you and your fathers forever and ever. 6Do not follow other gods to serve and worship them, and do not provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands. Then I will do you no harm.’Cross References

Jeremiah 25:4 Summary
This verse is saying that God has been trying to get the people's attention, sending them prophets to warn them and guide them, but they haven't been listening. It's like when someone is trying to tell you something important, but you're not paying attention. God wants us to listen to Him and turn away from our sins, just like it says in Acts 3:19. He wants us to have a soft heart and be willing to hear His voice, and to follow Him instead of our own ways or other gods, as mentioned in Jeremiah 25:6.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does it mean that God sent His servants the prophets to the people?
This means that God, in His great mercy and love, continually sent messengers to warn and guide His people, just as He did with Moses in Exodus 3:10 and with the prophets in Ezekiel 3:17.
Why did the people not listen to the prophets?
The people did not listen because they had hardened their hearts, just as it is written in Hebrews 3:15, and they were more interested in following their own ways and worshipping other gods, as mentioned in Jeremiah 25:6.
Is this verse only talking about the people of Judah or is it relevant to us today?
While the immediate context is the people of Judah, the principle of God sending messengers to guide and warn His people is relevant to all believers, as seen in Romans 10:14-15 and Matthew 28:19-20.
How does this verse relate to the concept of repentance?
This verse highlights the importance of listening to God's messengers and turning away from sin, which is a key part of repentance, as taught in Acts 3:19 and Luke 13:3.
