Joshua 10:28 Summary
[Joshua 10:28 describes how Joshua captured the city of Makkedah and devoted it to destruction, just like he had done to the city of Jericho, as a result of God's instructions to him (Joshua 6:2-5, Deuteronomy 20:16-18). This event shows us the importance of trusting and obeying God, even when His commands seem difficult or challenging. By following God's instructions, Joshua was able to conquer the city and fulfill God's promise to give the land to the Israelites (Joshua 1:3-4). We can learn from Joshua's example by trusting in God's sovereignty and provision in our own lives (Proverbs 3:5-6, Jeremiah 29:11).]
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did Joshua devote the city of Makkedah to destruction, leaving no survivors?
Joshua followed God's instructions to devote the city to destruction because of its rebellion against God, as seen in Deuteronomy 20:16-18, and to prevent the spread of idolatry and sin, as warned in Exodus 34:12-17 and Deuteronomy 7:1-6.
How does the conquest of Makkedah relate to the rest of Joshua's campaign?
The capture of Makkedah was part of a larger campaign to conquer the southern regions of Canaan, as described in Joshua 10:1-43, and it reflects God's promise to give the land to the Israelites, as stated in Joshua 1:3-4 and Joshua 6:2-5.
What can we learn from Joshua's obedience to God's commands in this verse?
Joshua's obedience demonstrates the importance of trusting and following God's instructions, even when they seem difficult or challenging, as emphasized in Proverbs 3:5-6 and Jeremiah 29:11.
How does the destruction of Makkedah compare to other conquests in the Bible?
The destruction of Makkedah is similar to the conquest of Jericho, as mentioned in Joshua 10:28, and it reflects the severity of God's judgment on those who rebel against Him, as seen in Joshua 6:17 and 24, and Isaiah 13:19.
