Micah 3:6
Micah 3:6 in Multiple Translations
Therefore night will come over you without visions, and darkness without divination. The sun will set on these prophets, and the daylight will turn black over them.
Therefore night shall be unto you, that ye shall not have a vision; and it shall be dark unto you, that ye shall not divine; and the sun shall go down over the prophets, and the day shall be dark over them.
Therefore it shall be night unto you, that ye shall have no vision; and it shall be dark unto you, that ye shall not divine; and the sun shall go down upon the prophets, and the day shall be black over them.
For this cause it will be night for you, without a vision; and it will be dark for you, without knowledge of the future; the sun will go down over the prophets, and the day will be black over them.
Therefore it will be like night for you, with no visions; dark, with no predictions. The sun will set on these prophets; their day will end in darkness.
Therefore night shalbe vnto you for a vision, and darkenesse shalbe vnto you for a diuination, and the sunne shall goe downe ouer the prophets, and the day shalbe darke ouer them.
Therefore a night ye have without vision, And darkness ye have without divination, And gone in hath the sun on the prophets, And black over them hath been the day.
“Therefore night is over you, with no vision, and it is dark to you, that you may not divine; and the sun will go down on the prophets, and the day will be black over them.
Therefore night shall be to you, that ye shall not have a vision; and it shall be dark to you, that ye shall not divine; and the sun shall go down over the prophets, and the day shall be dark over them.
Therefore night shall be to you instead of vision, and darkness to you instead of divination; and the sun shall go down upon the prophets, and the day shall be darkened over them.
So now it is as though [MET] night will descend on you prophets; you will not receive any more visions. It is as though [MET] the sun will set for you; the time when you are greatly honored will end.

Context — Rulers and Prophets Condemned
6Therefore night will come over you without visions, and darkness without divination. The sun will set on these prophets, and the daylight will turn black over them.
7Then the seers will be ashamed and the diviners will be disgraced. They will all cover their mouths because there is no answer from God.” 8As for me, however, I am filled with power by the Spirit of the LORD, with justice and courage, to declare to Jacob his transgression and to Israel his sin.Cross References

Micah 3:6 Summary
[This verse is saying that because the prophets have been leading God's people astray, they will no longer receive messages from God, and will be in spiritual darkness, as seen in Micah 3:4. This is a warning to all of us to be careful who we listen to and to make sure we are seeking guidance from God's Word, as encouraged in 2 Timothy 3:16-17. The prophets' influence and authority will come to an end, and they will face judgment, similar to what is described in Isaiah 8:20. We can learn from this by seeking to follow God's truth and being careful not to lead others astray, as warned against in James 3:1.]
Frequently Asked Questions
What does it mean for 'night to come over' the prophets in Micah 3:6?
This refers to a time of spiritual darkness and lack of guidance, where the prophets will no longer receive visions or messages from God, as seen in Micah 3:4 where it says God will hide His face from them.
Why will the sun set on these prophets and the daylight turn black over them?
This is a metaphor for the end of their influence and authority, as they have been leading God's people astray, proclaiming peace when there is no peace, as mentioned in Micah 3:5, and will face judgment, similar to what is described in Isaiah 8:20.
Is this verse talking about all prophets or just false prophets?
The context of Micah 3:5-7 suggests that it is referring to false prophets who have been leading God's people astray, and as a result, will face the judgment of God, as seen in Deuteronomy 18:20-22, which warns against false prophets.
How does this verse relate to the rest of the book of Micah?
Micah 3:6 is part of a larger section that condemns the sins of Israel's leaders, including the prophets, and warns of the coming judgment, which is a major theme throughout the book of Micah, as seen in Micah 1:2-7 and Micah 6:1-16.
