You have come to myriads of angels in joyful assembly, to the congregation of the firstborn, enrolled in heaven. You have come to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. See to it that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if the people did not escape when they refused Him who warned them on earth, how much less will we escape if we reject Him who warns us from heaven? At that time His voice shook the earth, but now He has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth, but heaven as well.” The words “Once more” signify the removal of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that the unshakable may remain. Therefore, since we are receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us be filled with gratitude, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe. “For our God is a consuming fire.” |

Numbers 4:15 Summary
This verse is talking about how the Kohathites were responsible for carrying the holy objects when the Israelite camp moved, but they were not allowed to touch these objects because they were special and only the priests could handle them, as seen in Numbers 4:15. This shows us that God is a holy God who deserves our reverence and respect, and that He has assigned different roles and tasks to each of us, just like He did with the Kohathites and the priests (1 Corinthians 12:4-7). We can learn from this verse to be faithful and obedient in our own tasks and roles, and to trust that God is working through us, even when our tasks seem small or unimportant (Matthew 25:14-30). By doing so, we can show our reverence and respect for God and His plans for us.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the significance of the Kohathites' role in transporting the holy objects?
The Kohathites were assigned to carry the holy objects, but they were not allowed to touch them, as this was a privileged task reserved for the priests, as seen in Numbers 4:15, emphasizing the importance of reverence and obedience to God's instructions, similar to the instructions given in Exodus 25:14-15.
Why were the Kohathites not allowed to touch the holy objects?
The Kohathites were not allowed to touch the holy objects because they were not consecrated for this task, and touching the holy objects could result in death, as stated in Numbers 4:15, highlighting the seriousness of disobedience to God's commands, as also seen in Numbers 3:10 and Numbers 18:7.
What does this verse reveal about the organization and structure of the Israelite camp?
This verse shows that the Israelite camp was highly organized, with specific tasks assigned to different groups, such as the Kohathites, and that the priests, like Aaron and his sons, played a crucial role in the transportation and care of the holy objects, as also mentioned in Numbers 3:6-10 and Numbers 4:1-14.
How does this verse relate to the broader theme of worship and reverence in the Bible?
This verse emphasizes the importance of reverence and obedience in worship, as seen in the careful handling of the holy objects, and this theme is echoed in other parts of the Bible, such as in Leviticus 10:1-3 and Hebrews 12:28-29, which stress the need for reverence and respect in worship.
