6.2: Jesus Works His Way South
JESUS FROM SEVEN SOURCES Copyright © 2000 - Kenneth Ray Taylor Chapter 6: Jesus Works His Way South 116. The Parable of the Unjust Steward
[Lk] And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods.
[Lk] And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward.
[Lk] Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed.
Luk 16:4 [Lk] I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.
[Lk] So he called every one of his lord’s debtors [unto him], and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord?
[Lk] And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty.
[Lk] Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, An hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write fourscore.
[Lk] And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.
[Lk] And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.
[Lk] He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.
[Lk] If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true [riches]?
Luk 16:12 [Lk] And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own?
[Lk] No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
117. The Rich Man & Lazarus
Luk 16:14 [Lk] And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.
[Lk] And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.
[Lk] The law and the prophets [were] until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.
Luk 16:17 [Lk] And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.
[Lk] Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from [her] husband committeth adultery.
Luk 16:19 [Lk] There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
Luk 16:20 [Lk] and there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
[Lk] and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
[Lk] And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
Luk 16:23 [Lk] and in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
[Lk] And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
[Lk] But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
[Lk] And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that [would come] from thence.
Luk 16:27 [Lk] Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house:
Luk 16:28 [Lk] for I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
Luk 16:29 [Lk] Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
Luk 16:30 [Lk] And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
[Lk] And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
118. Jesus Teaches How We Should Live
[Lk] Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe [unto him], through whom they come!
[Lk] It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.
Luk 17:3 [Lk] Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.
[Lk] And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.
Luk 17:5 [Lk] And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.
[Lk] And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.
[Lk] But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat?
[Lk] And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?
Luk 17:9 [Lk] Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not.
[Lk] So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.
119. Jesus Cleanses Ten Lepers
Luk 17:11 [Lk] And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.
Luk 17:12 [Lk] And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:
Luk 17:13 [Lk] and they lifted up [their] voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
[Lk] And when he saw [them], he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.
Luk 17:15 [Lk] And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,
Luk 17:16 [Lk] and fell down on [his] face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.
Luk 17:17 [Lk] And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where [are] the nine?
Luk 17:18 [Lk] There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.
Luk 17:19 [Lk] And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.
120. When Will the Kingdom Come?
[Lk] And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:
Luk 17:21 [Lk] neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
[Lk] And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see [it].
Luk 17:23 [Lk] And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after [them], nor follow [them].
[Lk] For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one [part] under heaven, shineth unto the other [part] under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.
Luk 17:25 [Lk] But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation.
Luk 17:26 [Lk] And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.
[Lk] They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
[Lk] Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
Luk 17:29 [Lk] but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed [them] all.
Luk 17:30 [Lk] Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.
[Lk] In that day, he which shall be upon the house top, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.
Luk 17:32 [Lk] Remember Lot’s wife.
Luk 17:33 [Lk] Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.
[Lk] I tell you, in that night there shall be two [men] in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.
Luk 17:35 [Lk] Two [women] shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
Luk 17:36 [Lk] Two [men] shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
[Lk] And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body [is], thither will the eagles be gathered together.
121. The Parable of the Unjust Judge
Luk 18:1 [Lk] And he spake a parable unto them [to this end], that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
Luk 18:2 [Lk] saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
Luk 18:3 [Lk] and there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
Luk 18:4 [Lk] And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
Luk 18:5 [Lk] yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
Luk 18:6 [Lk] And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
Luk 18:7 [Lk] And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
[Lk] I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
122. The Parable of the Pharisee & the Publican
Luk 18:9 [Lk] And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
Luk 18:10 [Lk] Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
[Lk] The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men [are], extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
Luk 18:12 [Lk] I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
[Lk] And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as [his] eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
[Lk] I tell you, this man went down to his house justified [rather] than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
123. Jesus Goes Beyond the Jordan [Mat 19:1b-2 (and came into...); Mark 10:1b (and cometh into...); & John 10:40-42]
[ Jn] And [ ] [he] [ Jn] went away,
Mat 19:1 b
Mark 10:1 b [Mt Mk ] and came [ Jn] again [Mt Mk ] into the coasts of Judaea [ Mk ] by the [Mt Mk Jn] farther side of Jordan [ Jn] into the place where John at first baptized; and there he abode.
[Mt Mk Jn] And [Mt Jn] many [Mt Mk ] people [ Mk Jn] resorted unto him [ Mk ] again, [ ] [and] [Mt ] followed him, [ Jn] and said, John did no miracle: but all things that John spake of this man were true.
[Mt Mk ] And, [ Mk ] as he was wont,
[Mt Mk ] he [ Mk ] taught them again [ ] [and] [Mt ] healed them there.
John 10:42 [ Jn] And many believed on him there.
124. Jesus Teaches Concerning Divorce [Mat 19:3-12 & Mark 10:2-12]
Mark 10:2 [Mt Mk] And the Pharisees came unto
[Mt ] him, [Mt Mk] tempting him, and
[ Mk] asked, [Mt ] saying unto [Mt Mk] him, Is it lawful for a man to put away
[Mt ] his
[Mt Mk] wife [Mt ] for every cause?
Mark 10:3 [ Mk] And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?
Mark 10:4 [ Mk] And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put [her] away.
Mat 19:4 [Mt ] And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that
[ Mk] God [Mt ] which made [them] at the beginning [Mt Mk] made them male and female,
Mat 19:5 [Mt ] and said,
Mark 10:7 [Mt Mk] For this cause shall a man leave
[ Mk] his [Mt Mk] father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife;
Mark 10:8 [Mt Mk] and they twain shall be one flesh?
Mat 19:6 [Mt Mk] Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh.
Mark 10:9 [Mt Mk] What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
Mat 19:7 [Mt ] They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?
Mark 10:5 [ Mk] And Jesus answered and
Mat 19:8 [Mt Mk] said unto them,
[Mt ] Moses [Mt Mk] for the hardness of your hearts [ Mk] wrote you this precept,
[ ] [and] [Mt ] suffered you to put away your wives:
Mark 10:6 a [Mt Mk] but from the beginning [ Mk] of the creation [Mt ] it was not so.
Mark 10:10 [ Mk] And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same [matter].
Mark 10:11 [ Mk] And he saith unto them,
Mat 19:9 [Mt ] And I say unto you, [Mt Mk] Whosoever shall put away his wife, [Mt ] except [it be] for fornication, [Mt Mk] and shall marry another, committeth adultery [ Mk] against her:
[Mt ] and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.
Mark 10:12 [ Mk] And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.
Mat 19:10 [Mt ] His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with [his] wife, it is not good to marry.
Mat 19:11 [Mt ] But he said unto them, All [men] cannot receive this saying, save [they] to whom it is given.
[Mt ] For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from [their] mother’s womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive [it], let him receive [it].
125. Jesus Blesses the Children [Mat 19:13-15; Mark 10:13-16; & Luk 18:15-17]
[ Mk Lk] And
Mat 19:13 [Mt ] then [ Mk Lk] they [Mt Mk Lk] brought unto him [Mt Mk ] little children, [ ] [and] [ Lk] infants also, [Mt Mk Lk] that he should [Mt ] put [his] hands on them, [ Mk Lk] touch them, [Mt ] and pray:
[Mt Mk Lk] but [ Lk] when [Mt Mk Lk] the disciples [ Lk] saw [it], they [Mt Mk Lk] rebuked those [ Mk ] that brought [them].
[Mt Mk Lk] But [ Mk ] when [Mt Mk Lk] Jesus [ Mk ] saw [it], he was much displeased, and [ Lk] called them [unto him], and [Mt Mk Lk] said [ Mk ] unto [ ] [his disciples], [Mt Mk Lk] Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of
[ Mk Lk] God [ ] [and] [Mt ] heaven.
[ Mk Lk] Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
Mark 10:16 [Mt Mk ] And he [ Mk ] took them up in his arms, [Mt Mk ] laid [his] hands on them, [ Mk ] and blessed them, [Mt ] and departed thence.
126. The Rich Young Ruler [Mat 19:16-30; Mat 20:1-16; Mark 10:17-31; & Luk 18:18-30]
[Mt Mk Lk] And [ Mk ] when he was gone forth into the way, [Mt ] behold, [Mt Mk Lk] a certain [ Lk] ruler [Mt Mk ] came [ Mk ] running,
[Mt Mk ] and [ Mk ] kneeled
[Mt Mk ] to [ Mk ] him, and [ Mk Lk] asked [Mt Mk Lk] him, [Mt Lk] saying, [Mt Mk Lk] Good Master, what [Mt ] good thing [Mt Mk Lk] shall I do, [Mt Mk ] that I
[Mt Mk Lk] may [ Mk Lk] inherit [ ] [and] [Mt ] have [Mt Mk Lk] eternal life?
[Mt Mk Lk] And [ Mk Lk] Jesus [Mt Mk Lk] said unto him, Why callest thou me good? [there is] none good but one, [that is], God:
[Mt ] but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
Mat 19:18 [Mt ] He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said,
Luk 18:20 [ Mk Lk] Thou knowest the commandments, [Mt Mk Lk] Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, [ Mk ] Defraud not,
Mat 19:19 [Mt Mk Lk] Honour thy father and
[ Lk] thy [Mt Mk Lk] mother:
[Mt ] and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
[ Mk Lk] And
Mat 19:20 [Mt ] the young man [ Mk ] answered and [Mt Mk Lk] said [Mt Mk ] unto him, [ Mk ] Master, [Mt Mk Lk] all these have I kept from my youth:
[Mt ] what lack I yet?
[ Mk Lk] Now [ Lk] when he heard these things,
Mat 19:21 [Mt Mk Lk] Jesus [ Mk ] beholding him loved him, and [Mt Mk Lk] said unto him,
[ Lk] Yet [ Mk Lk] one thing thou lackest:
[Mt ] if thou wilt be perfect,
[Mt Mk ] go, [Mt Mk Lk] sell
[ Lk] all [Mt Mk Lk] what- [ Mk Lk] soever [Mt Mk Lk] thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, [ Mk ] take up the cross, and [Mt Mk Lk] follow me.
[Mt Mk Lk] But [Mt Lk] when [Mt ] the young man [Mt Lk] heard [ Lk] this, [ Mk Lk] he was [ Mk ] sad at [Mt Mk ] that saying;
[ Mk ] and [Mt Mk ] he went away [ Lk] very [Mt Mk Lk] sorrowful: for he [ Lk] was very rich [ ] [and] [Mt Mk ] had great possessions.
[Mt Mk Lk] And [ Lk] when [Mt Mk Lk] Jesus [ Lk] saw that he was very sorrowful, he [ Mk ] looked round about, and [Mt Mk Lk] saith [Mt Mk ] unto his disciples, [Mt ] Verily I say unto you, That
[ Mk Lk] how [Mt Mk Lk] hardly shall [ Mk Lk] they that have [Mt Mk Lk] rich-
[ Mk Lk] es [Mt Mk Lk] enter into the kingdom of
[ Mk Lk] God [ ] [and] [Mt ] heaven!
[ Mk ] And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
[ Lk] For
Mat 19:24 [Mt ] again I say unto you,
[Mt Mk Lk] It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
[Mt Mk Lk] And [Mt ] when his disciples [Mt Lk] heard [it], [Mt Mk ] they were exceedingly astonished, [Mt Mk Lk] saying [ Mk ] among themselves, [Mt Mk Lk] Who then can be saved?
[Mt Mk Lk] But [Mt Mk ] Jesus looking upon [ Mk ] them [Mt Mk Lk] said [Mt ] unto them, [Mt Mk Lk] With men [Mt ] this is [Mt Mk Lk] impossible,
[Mt Mk ] but [ Mk ] not with God: for [Mt Mk Lk] with God [Mt Mk ] all things [Mt Mk Lk] are possible.
Luk 18:28 [Mt Mk Lk] Then [Mt ] answered [Mt Mk Lk] Peter
[Mt ] and [ Mk ] began to
[Mt Mk Lk] say [Mt Mk ] unto him, [Mt Mk Lk] Lo, we have left all, and followed thee;
[Mt ] what shall we have therefore?
[Mt Mk Lk] And [Mt Mk ] Jesus [ Mk ] answered and [Mt Mk Lk] said [Mt Lk] unto them, [Mt Mk Lk] Verily I say unto you, [Mt Lk] That
[Mt ] ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
[Mt ] And [ Mk Lk] there is no man [Mt Mk Lk] that hath left house-
[Mt ] s, [Mt Mk Lk] or brethren, [Mt Mk ] or sisters,
[Mt Mk Lk] or [ Lk] parents, [Mt Mk ] (father or mother,) [Mt Mk Lk] or wife, or children, [Mt Mk ] or lands, for my [Mt ] name’s [Mt Mk ] sake,
[ Mk ] and
[ Lk] for [ Mk ] the gospel [ ] [of] [ Lk] the kingdom of God’s sake,
[ Mk Lk] who [Mt Mk Lk] shall
[ Mk Lk] not [Mt Mk Lk] receive, [Mt ] every one, [ Lk] manifold more, [ ] [yea,] [Mt Mk ] an hundredfold,
[ Mk ] now [ Mk Lk] in this time, [ Mk ] houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions;
[Mt Mk Lk] and [ Mk Lk] in the world to come [Mt ] shall inherit [Mt Mk Lk] eternal life.
Mark 10:31 [Mt Mk ] But many [that are] first shall be last; and the last first.
[Mt ] For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man [that is] an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.
Mat 20:2 [Mt ] And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
Mat 20:3 [Mt ] And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,
[Mt ] and said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way.
Mat 20:5 [Mt ] Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.
[Mt ] And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?
[Mt ] They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, [that] shall ye receive.
[Mt ] So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them [their] hire, beginning from the last unto the first.
Mat 20:9 [Mt ] And when they came that [were hired] about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny.
[Mt ] But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny.
Mat 20:11 [Mt ] And when they had received [it], they murmured against the goodman of the house,
[Mt ] saying, These last have wrought [but] one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.
[Mt ] But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?
Mat 20:14 [Mt ] Take [that] thine [is], and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee.
Mat 20:15 [Mt ] Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?
Mat 20:16 [Mt ] So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.
127. Jesus Raises Lazarus from the Dead
John 11:1 [Jn] Now a certain [man] was sick, [named] Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
[Jn] (It was [that] Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)
John 11:3 [Jn] Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
[Jn] When Jesus heard [that], he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.
John 11:5 [Jn] Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
John 11:6 [Jn] When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.
John 11:7 [Jn] Then after that saith he to [his] disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.
John 11:8 [Jn] [His] disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?
[Jn] Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.
John 11:10 [Jn] But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.
[Jn] These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.
John 11:12 [Jn] Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.
John 11:13 [Jn] Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.
John 11:14 [Jn] Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
John 11:15 [Jn] And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.
John 11:16 [Jn] Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.
John 11:17 [Jn] Then when Jesus came, he found that he had [lain] in the grave four days already.
John 11:18 [Jn] Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:
John 11:19 [Jn] and many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.
John 11:20 [Jn] Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat [still] in the house.
John 11:21 [Jn] Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
John 11:22 [Jn] But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give [it] thee.
John 11:23 [Jn] Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
John 11:24 [Jn] Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
[Jn] Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
John 11:26 [Jn] and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
[Jn] She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
[Jn] And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.
John 11:29 [Jn] As soon as she heard [that], she arose quickly, and came unto him.
John 11:30 [Jn] Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.
[Jn] The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.
[Jn] Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
[Jn] When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,
John 11:34 [Jn] and said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
John 11:35 [Jn] Jesus wept.
John 11:36 [Jn] Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!
[Jn] And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?
John 11:38 [Jn] Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
[Jn] Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been [dead] four days.
John 11:40 [Jn] Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?
[Jn] Then they took away the stone [from the place] where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up [his] eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.
[Jn] And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said [it], that they may believe that thou hast sent me.
John 11:43 [Jn] And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
[Jn] And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
John 11:45 [Jn] Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
John 11:46 [Jn] But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.
