Esther 1:1-22

Contents: Ahasuerus’ great feast and the story of Vashti.

Characters: Ahasuerus, Vashti, Memucan, Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena.

Conclusion: Better is a dinner of herbs with quietness than the banquet of wine with its tumult and the sin sure to result from it. When wine is in, wit is out.

Striking Facts: Esther 1:12. Whether or not it was the part of wisdom for Vashti to deny obedience to the king, or that the king was ruled by passion, the incident served God’s providence making way for Esther to the crown.
