Conclusion: If a nation insists on rejecting God’s counsels, it is just with God to apply the scourge. However in the deluge of trouble that may come to a nation, God will keep the heads of His trusting people above water, if they will make His statutes, rather than those having familiar spirits, their counsellors.

Striking Facts: Isaiah 8:14. When Israel rejected Christ. He became to them a stone of stumbling. This passage is quoted in application to all those who persist in their unbelief of the Gospel (1 Peter 2:8). Being disobedient to God’s Word, men stumble at it.
