By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments.—I JOHN v. 2.

Learn that to love is the one way to know

Or God or man; it is not love received

That maketh man to know the inner life

Of them that love him; his own love bestowed

Contemplate the love of Christ, and you will love. Stand before that mirror, reflect Christ's character, and you will be changed into the same image from tender- ness to tenderness. There is no other way. You cannot love to order. You can only look at the lovely object, and fall in love with it, and grow into likeness to it.

Love is Patience. This is the normal attitude of Love; Love passive, Love waiting to begin; not in a hurry; calm; ready to do its work when the sum- mons comes, but meantime wearing the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit.
