Politeness is to do and say

The kindest things in the kindest way.

True civility is the outgrowth of humility and love. Sow these two seeds. Nourish in your soul's richest and deepest soil these two plants. They both are near to God, for we are lowlier and we love more as we feel ourselves nearer to Him. And out of them will grow, among the fairest flowers, courtesy. It will make you gracious. It will make you expressive. It will make you careful of others' feelings. It will make you respectful. It will make you reverent. It will make you dutiful. It will make you unselfish. It will make you thoughtful. . . . I know nothing that so becomes a woman as courtesy.
