Psalms 33
BSA1 Rejoice [sing, shout for joy] in the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God], O righteous ones [those who do good, upright in character]; it is fitting [lovely, beautiful, comely] for the upright [those who are straight, just] to praise [give thanks, offer hymns] Him [the Almighty, the Savior]. word study 2 Praise [give thanks, honor] the LORD [Yehovah] with the harp [lyre, a stringed instrument]; make music [sing praises, play skillfully] to Him with ten [a tenth] strings [of the psaltery, a musical instrument]. word study 3 Sing [with joyful music, in harmony] to Him a new [fresh, recently created] song; play skillfully [with expertise] with a shout [loud, joyful sound, blast of trumpets] of joy [happiness, delight, rejoicing]. word study 4 For the word [right, true] of the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] is upright [straight, just, convenient and right], and all [everything] His work [deed, action] is trustworthy [done in faithfulness, certain, faithful]. word study 5 The LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] loves [has affection for, delights in] righteousness [moral virtue, justice] and justice [judgment, fairness]; the earth [land, creation] is full [complete, filled to capacity] of His loving devotion [kindness, mercy]. word study 6 By the word [of divine command, Logos] of the LORD [Yehovah, the Lord God] the heavens [the visible universe, the sky] were made [created, formed], and all [everything, the entire host] the stars [celestial bodies, heavenly host] by the breath [spirit, wind] of His mouth [lips, command]. word study 7 He piles up [gathers, collects] the waters [liquid, source of refreshment] of the sea [a large body of water]; He puts [lays up, sets] the depths [abyss, the deep waters of the ocean] into storehouses [treasuries, depositories]. word study 8 Let all [every single one, the entire] the earth [land, world, creation] fear [stand in awe, revere] the LORD [Yehovah, the divine Sovereign]; let all [every single one, the entire] the people [inhabitants, dwellers] of the world [earth, creation, the inhabited earth] revere [stand in awe, show reverence to] Him [the Almighty, the Eternal One]. word study 9 For [because of this reason] He [the Lord, God] spoke [commanded, declared], and it came to be [was done, existed]; He commanded [gave orders, appointed], and it stood firm [stood fast, was established]. word study 10 The LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] frustrates [brings to nought, breaks] the plans [counsel, advice] of the nations [Gentiles, non-Hebrew peoples]; He thwarts [forbids, makes of no effect] the devices [plots, thoughts] of the peoples [nations, groups of people]. word study 11 The counsel [plan, advice, purpose] of the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] stands [remains, endures] forever [always, for eternity], the purposes [thoughts, plans, devices] of His heart [feelings, will, intellect] to all generations [periods of time, groups of people]. word study 12 Blessed [happy, fortunate] is the nation [Gentile, large group] whose God [Elohim, the supreme God] is the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God], the people [Amaw, a people or nation] He has chosen [to choose, select] as His inheritance [something passed down, a family heirloom]! word study 13 The LORD [Yehovah] looks down [beholdeth, gazes upon] from heaven [the visible universe, the abode of God]; He sees [to look after, provide for] all [everything, the whole of] the sons [descendants, children] of men [humanity, the people of Adam]. word study 14 From His [fixed place of] dwelling place [habitation, throne] He gazes [looks forth, watches] on all [every, everything] who inhabit [dwell, live] the earth [land, territory]. word study 15 He [forms, creates] shapes the hearts [the seat of feelings, will, and intellect] of each [individually, one by one]; He [carefully, attentively] considers [understands, discerns, examines] all [every single one, everything] their works [deeds, actions, accomplishments, a deed, something done]. word study 16 No [not a single] king [royal person, monarch] is saved [delivered, rescued] by his vast [abundant, numerous] army [host, military force]; no [not a single] warrior [mighty man, champion] is delivered [rescued, freed] by his great [abundant, powerful] strength [might, power]. word study 17 A horse [a vain thing, a false hope] is a vain hope [deception, a false sense of security] for salvation [deliverance, rescue]; even its great [abundant, mighty] strength [power, might] cannot [will not, is unable to] save [deliver, rescue]. word study 18 Surely the eyes [of watchful care, beholding] of the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] are on those who fear [reverently trust, are afraid of] Him, on those whose hope [confident expectation, waiting] is in His loving devotion [kindness, mercy] word study 19 to deliver [rescue, snatch away] them from [the power of] death [physical or spiritual] and keep [preserve, maintain] them alive [living, having life] in [times of] famine [hunger, lack of spiritual nourishment]. word study 20 Our soul [living being, essence of a person] waits [patiently, with expectation] for the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God]; He is our help [assistant, one who provides aid] and our shield [protector, defense, like a shield protects a soldier]. word study 21 For [because of our faith] our hearts [the seat of our emotions, will, and intellect] rejoice [are glad, experience joy] in Him [the Lord, our Savior], since [because] we trust [have confidence, faith] in His [the Lord’s] holy [set apart, sacred] name [His character, identity, reputation]. word study 22 May Your [merciful] loving devotion [kindness, trustworthy love] rest [be upon, come to rest] on us, O [Yehovah] LORD, as we put [place, trust] our hope [confidence, expectation] in You [on You, in Your faithfulness]. word study
