Genesis 24:26 Summary

[The man in Genesis 24:26 bowed down and worshiped the LORD because he saw God's hand guiding him to find a wife for Isaac. This shows us that we should always be looking for ways to thank and praise God for His guidance and provision in our lives (Psalm 100:4-5). By doing so, we demonstrate our trust in His plan and our commitment to following Him. We can learn from the man's example by taking time to worship and thank God for the big and small things in our lives, just like the Psalmist in Psalm 107:1.]

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did the man bow down and worship the LORD in Genesis 24:26?

The man bowed down and worshiped the LORD because he recognized God's sovereign hand in guiding him to Rebekah, as seen in Genesis 24:27, where he says, 'the LORD has led me on the journey to the house of my master’s relatives.' This act of worship demonstrates his trust and obedience to God's plan, similar to Abraham's faith in Genesis 12:4.

What can we learn from the man's example of worship in Genesis 24:26?

We can learn the importance of promptly responding to God's guidance and provision with gratitude and worship, just like the man in Genesis 24:26, and also like King David in Psalm 100:4-5, who encourages us to enter God's gates with thanksgiving and praise.

How does the man's worship in Genesis 24:26 relate to his mission to find a wife for Isaac?

The man's worship in Genesis 24:26 shows that he acknowledges God's involvement in every aspect of his life, including his mission to find a wife for Isaac, which is a key part of God's promise to Abraham in Genesis 12:2-3 and Genesis 17:16.

What does the man's action of bowing down and worshiping the LORD teach us about prayer and thanksgiving?

The man's action teaches us that prayer and thanksgiving should be our immediate response to God's faithfulness and guidance in our lives, as expressed in Psalm 107:1 and Psalm 118:1, which encourage us to give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness and goodness.

Trapp's Commentary on Genesis 24:26

Genesis 24:26 And the man bowed down his head, and worshipped the LORD.Ver. 26. And the man bowed down his head.] See how he relisheth of his master’ s house, and showeth a gracious heart, ready to offer up a sacrifice of praise, wherever God shall please to set it up an altar. The same word in Greek (÷áñéò) signifieth, grace and thanks; to show, that as any man hath more grace, he is more grateful to God and man. It is observable also, that our Saviour sets these two together, - "the unthankful, and the evil"; "He is kind to the unthankful, and to the evil".

Adam Clarke's Commentary on Genesis 24:26

Verse 26. Bowed down his head, and worshipped] Two acts of adoration are mentioned here; 1. Bowing the head, יקד yikkod; and 2. Prostration upon the earth, וישתחו vaiyishtaehu. The bowing of the head was to Rebekah, to return her thanks for her kind invitation. The prostration was to Jehovah, in gratitude for the success with which he had favoured him.
