5Then Samson went down to Timnah with his father and mother and came to the vineyards of Timnah. Suddenly a young lion came roaring at him, 6and the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon him, and he tore the lion apart with his bare hands as one would tear a young goat. But he did not tell his father or mother what he had done.Cross References

Judges 14:4 Summary
[This verse tells us that God was working behind the scenes, even when Samson's parents didn't understand what was happening. God was looking for a way to help Israel, who was being ruled by the Philistines at the time. We can trust that God is always working, even when we don't see it, just like it says in Romans 8:28, that God works all things together for good. By trusting in God's sovereignty, we can have peace, even in uncertain circumstances, as seen in Philippians 4:6-7.]
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did God allow Samson's parents to be unaware of His plan?
God's ways are often mysterious, and He doesn't always reveal His plans to everyone involved, as seen in Isaiah 55:9, which says God's thoughts are higher than our thoughts.
What was God's purpose in using Samson to move against the Philistines?
God was seeking to deliver Israel from the Philistines' rule, which is a common theme throughout the book of Judges, such as in Judges 3:9, where God raises up Othniel to save Israel.
How does this verse relate to the concept of God's sovereignty?
This verse demonstrates God's sovereignty over all events, even those that seem ordinary or mundane, as stated in Proverbs 16:9, which says a man's heart plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.
What can we learn from Samson's parents' lack of understanding?
We can learn to trust God even when we don't understand His plans, just like in Proverbs 3:5-6, which instructs us to trust in the LORD with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding.
Reflection Questions

- In what ways can I trust God's sovereignty in my daily life, even in difficult circumstances?
- What are some areas where I need to surrender my understanding and trust in God's plan?
- How can I apply the principle of trusting God's sovereignty in my relationships, like Samson's parents did?
