So watch out! The time is coming, declares the Lord, when instead of Topheth and the Valley of Hinnom this place will be called the Valley of Killing. People will bury their dead in Topheth until it's full.

Therefore, lo, days are coming, An affirmation of Jehovah, And it is not said any more, 'The Tophet,' And 'Valley of the son of Hinnom,' But 'Valley of the slaughter,' And they have buried in Tophet — without place.

So they should beware! There will be a time when that place will no longer be called Topheth or the Hinnom Valley; instead, it will be called the Valley of Slaughter. There will be a huge number of people who will be buried there, with the result that there will be no space to bury more bodies.

Context — The Valley of Slaughter
32So behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when this place will no longer be called Topheth and the Valley of Ben-hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter. For they will bury the dead in Topheth until there is no more room.
33The corpses of this people will become food for the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and there will be no one to scare them away. 34I will remove from the cities of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem the sounds of joy and gladness and the voices of the bride and bridegroom, for the land will become a wasteland.”Cross References

Jeremiah 7:32 Summary
Jeremiah 7:32 is a warning from God that a time of great judgment and slaughter is coming, and the place where the Israelites have been practicing child sacrifice will be filled with the dead. This is a result of their sinful actions, which have defiled the land and provoked God's anger, as seen in Deuteronomy 28:15-68. However, even in the midst of judgment, God is a God of mercy and love, and He calls people to repentance and faith in Him, as seen in Jeremiah 29:11-14 and John 3:16. This verse reminds us that our actions have consequences, and that God is a holy and just God who will punish sin, but also offers forgiveness and restoration to those who turn to Him, as seen in 1 John 1:9 and Psalm 103:8-12.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the significance of the Valley of Hinnom in Jeremiah 7:32?
The Valley of Hinnom, also known as Topheth, was a place where the Israelites practiced child sacrifice, which was an abomination to God, as seen in Jeremiah 7:31, and is also referenced in other passages such as Isaiah 66:24 and Matthew 18:8-9.
Why will the place be called the Valley of Slaughter in the future?
The place will be called the Valley of Slaughter because it will be filled with the dead, as stated in Jeremiah 7:32, and this will be a result of God's judgment on the people for their sinful actions, similar to what is described in Ezekiel 5:12 and Revelation 6:8.
Is this prophecy fulfilled in the Bible?
While the exact fulfillment of this prophecy is not explicitly stated in the Bible, it is likely that it was fulfilled during the Babylonian conquest of Jerusalem, as described in 2 Kings 25:1-21 and Jeremiah 52:1-34, where many people were killed and the city was left in ruins.
What can we learn from this verse about God's character?
This verse shows that God is a just and holy God who hates sin and will punish those who practice it, as seen in Jeremiah 7:30-31, but it also shows that He is a God of mercy and warning, as He declares His intentions before they happen, giving people a chance to repent, as seen in Jonah 3:1-10 and Acts 17:30-31.

- How does the concept of a place being so filled with death and destruction that it is renamed the 'Valley of Slaughter' impact my understanding of the severity of God's judgment on sin?
- In what ways can I be a voice of warning and mercy to those around me, calling them to repentance and faith in God, as seen in Ezekiel 3:17-21 and 2 Corinthians 5:20?
- What are some areas in my life where I need to trust in God's sovereignty and justice, even when I do not understand the circumstances, as seen in Romans 8:28 and Psalm 37:3-7?
