Jeremiah 8:10
Jeremiah 8:10 in Multiple Translations
Therefore I will give their wives to other men and their fields to new owners. For from the least of them to the greatest, all are greedy for gain; from prophet to priest, all practice deceit.
Therefore will I give their wives unto others, and their fields to them that shall inherit them: for every one from the least even unto the greatest is given to covetousness, from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
Therefore will I give their wives unto others, and their fields to them that shall possess them: for every one from the least even unto the greatest is given to covetousness; from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
So I will give their wives to others, and their fields to those who will take them for themselves: for everyone, from the least to the greatest, is given up to getting money; from the priest even to the prophet, everyone is false.
I'm going to give their wives to others, and their fields to different owners, since everyone cheats because they're greedy, poor and rich alike. Even prophets and priests—they are all dishonest liars!
Therefore will I giue their wiues vnto others, and their fieldes to them that shall possesse them: for euery one from the least euen vnto the greatest is giuen to couetousnesse, and from the Prophet euen vnto the Priest, euery one dealeth falsely.
Therefore, I give their wives to others, Their fields to dispossessors, For from the least even unto the greatest, Every one is gaining dishonest gain, From prophet even unto priest, every one is dealing falsely.
Therefore I will give their wives to others and their fields to those who will possess them. For everyone from the least even to the greatest is given to covetousness; from the prophet even to the priest everyone deals falsely.
Therefore will I give their wives to others, and their fields to them that shall inherit them : for every one from the least even to the greatest is given to covetousness, from the prophet even to the priest every one dealeth falsely.
Therefore I will give their women to strangers, their fields to others for an inheritance: because from the least even to the greatest all follow covetousness: from the prophet even to the priest, all deal deceitfully.
So, I will give their wives to other men; I will give their fields to the enemy soldiers who conquer them. All the people, including those who are important and those who are not important, deceive others in order to obtain their possessions. Even my prophets and my priests do that.

Context — Judah’s Sin and Punishment
10Therefore I will give their wives to other men and their fields to new owners. For from the least of them to the greatest, all are greedy for gain; from prophet to priest, all practice deceit.
11They dress the wound of the daughter of My people with very little care, saying, ‘Peace, peace,’ when there is no peace at all. 12Are they ashamed of the abomination they have committed? No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to blush. So they will fall among the fallen; when I punish them, they will collapse, says the LORD.Cross References

They are filling you with false hopes. They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD. They keep saying to those who despise Me, ‘The LORD says that you will have peace,’ and to everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own heart, ‘No harm will come to you.’ |
Jeremiah 8:10 Summary
This verse is saying that because the people of Judah were so greedy and dishonest, God would take away their possessions and give them to others. This is a warning that when we prioritize our own gain above all else, we can lose everything that truly matters, as seen in Proverbs 15:27 and 1 Timothy 6:10. It's a call to examine our own hearts and priorities, and to seek to live with honesty and integrity, as seen in Psalm 37:3-4 and Matthew 6:33.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does it mean when God says He will give their wives to other men and their fields to new owners in Jeremiah 8:10?
This is a judgment from God, indicating that the people's disobedience and greed will result in the loss of their possessions and relationships, as seen in Deuteronomy 28:30 and Isaiah 5:8-10.
Why does the verse say that all are greedy for gain, from the least to the greatest?
This emphasizes the widespread nature of the problem, that every level of society is infected with greed and a desire for personal gain, rather than seeking to follow God's commands, as seen in Micah 3:11 and 1 Timothy 6:10.
What is the significance of prophets and priests practicing deceit in Jeremiah 8:10?
This indicates that even those who were supposed to be spiritual leaders were corrupt and dishonest, leading the people astray, which is a serious offense against God, as seen in Ezekiel 34:2-4 and Matthew 23:14.
How does this verse relate to the idea of God's judgment?
This verse shows that God's judgment is not just a future event, but a present reality, where He actively works to correct and punish sin, as seen in Hebrews 12:6 and Revelation 20:12-15.
