Joshua 6:18
Joshua 6:18 in Multiple Translations
But keep away from the things devoted to destruction, lest you yourself be set apart for destruction. If you take any of these, you will set apart the camp of Israel for destruction and bring disaster upon it.
And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.
But as for you, only keep yourselves from the devoted thing, lest when ye have devoted it, ye take of the devoted thing; so would ye make the camp of Israel accursed, and trouble it.
And as for you, keep yourselves from the cursed thing, for fear that you may get a desire for it and take some of it for yourselves, and so be the cause of a curse and great trouble on the tents of Israel.
But stay away from everything set apart for the Lord, for if you were to take anything you too would be liable to be destroyed, and you would also bring disaster on the camp of Israel.
Notwithstanding, be ye ware of the execrable thing, lest ye make your selues execrable, and in taking of the execrable thing, make also the hoste of Israel execrable, and trouble it.
and surely ye have kept from the devoted thing, lest ye devote [yourselves], and have taken from the devoted thing, and have made the camp of Israel become a devoted thing, and have troubled it;
But as for you, only keep yourselves from what is devoted to destruction, lest when you have devoted it, you take of the devoted thing; so you would make the camp of Israel accursed and trouble it.
And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.
But beware ye lest you touch ought of those things that are forbidden, and you be guilty of transgression, and all the camp of Israel be under sin, and be troubled.
And because Yahweh has declared that everything must be destroyed [IDM], you must not take [EUP] any of the things in the city. If you take anything, you will cause Yahweh to destroy our own camp and cause terrible things to happen to us.

18But keep away from the things devoted to destruction, lest you yourself be set apart for destruction. If you take any of these, you will set apart the camp of Israel for destruction and bring disaster upon it.
19For all the silver and gold and all the articles of bronze and iron are holy to the LORD; they must go into His treasury.” 20So when the rams’ horns sounded, the people shouted. When they heard the blast of the horn, the people gave a great shout, and the wall collapsed. Then all the people charged straight into the city and captured it.Cross References

Joshua 6:18 Summary
This verse is warning the Israelites to stay away from things that are meant to be destroyed, because if they take them, they will bring trouble to themselves and the whole camp of Israel. This is similar to what happened in Deuteronomy 7:26, where God commands the Israelites to destroy the nations that inhabit the land of Canaan. It's like if someone told you not to touch something that's hot, because it will hurt you. God is saying, 'Don't take these things, because they will bring harm to you and the people around you.' We can apply this to our lives by being careful what we 'take' or hold onto, and making sure we are living a life that is pleasing to God, as seen in 1 Peter 1:15-16.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does it mean to be 'set apart for destruction'?
To be set apart for destruction means to be dedicated to God for the purpose of being destroyed, as seen in Joshua 6:18, and is similar to the concept of being 'devoted to destruction' as mentioned in Deuteronomy 7:26, where God commands the Israelites to destroy the nations that inhabit the land of Canaan.
Why were the Israelites not allowed to take any of the things devoted to destruction?
The Israelites were not allowed to take any of the things devoted to destruction because these items were considered holy and belonged to God, as stated in Joshua 6:19, and taking them would have been considered a form of theft from God, similar to the sin of Achan in Joshua 7:1-26.
What is the significance of the camp of Israel being 'set apart for destruction'?
The camp of Israel being set apart for destruction signifies that the entire nation would be held accountable for the actions of an individual who disobeys God's command, as seen in Joshua 7:1-26, where the sin of Achan affects the entire nation, highlighting the importance of corporate responsibility and obedience to God's commands, as also emphasized in Leviticus 26:37.
How does this verse relate to the concept of holiness in the Bible?
This verse highlights the importance of maintaining holiness and separation from things that are considered unholy or devoted to destruction, as God is a holy God, as stated in Leviticus 11:44-45, and commands His people to be holy, as seen in 1 Peter 1:15-16.
