MOreover] Job expected a while to see if Zophar would reply in his turn, and seeing he did not, he proceeds to clear his integritie.

Job 27:2
who hath taken away my judgement] By denying to plead with me, and to clear me before my friends.
vexed my soul] Heb. made my soul bitter.
Job 27:3
the spirit of God is in my nostrils] That is, the breath which God gave him, Genesis 2:7. Isaiah 2:22.
Job 27:4
My lips shall not] Heb. If my lips, &c. Then let me perish. A double oath, one, vers. 2. the other, here.
speak wickednesse] Howsoever men judge of me, yet I will not speak contrary to that which I have said, and so do wickedly in betraying the truth, Job 13:7.
Job 27:5
God forbid that I should justifie you] Which condemn me as a wicked man, because the hand of God is upon me.
I will not remove my integritie from me] I will not confesse that God doth punish me as a wicked man, nor accuse my self against my own conscience.
Job 27:6
reproach me] Or, cast it away, as Judg. 5. 18.
so long] Heb. from my dayes.
Job 27:7
Let mine enemy be as the wicked] He shews his hatred of wickednesse, by wishing his enemies rather to be so accounted.
Job 27:8
For what is the hope of the hypocrite] Matthew 16:26. What advantage hath the dissembler to gain never so much, seeing he shall lose his own soul, and die in despair, chap. 8. 13. and 20. 5.
Job 27:9
Will God hear his cry when trouble cometh upon him?] Proverbs 1:28. Ezekiel 8:18. John 9. 31. James 4. 3.
Job 27:10
will he alwayes call upon God?] In adversitie as well as in prosperitie.
Job 27:11
by the hand of God] Or, being in the hand, &c. Or, of the hand of God: That is, his judgements.
Job 27:12
all ye your selves have seen it] Ye have seen God prosper bad men, and crosse good men, and ye will not understand.
altogether vain] Why maintain you then this errour?
Job 27:13
This is the portion of a wicked man] Sometimes God doth not punish them in their life time, but in their posteritie.
Job 27:14
for the sword] Hosea 9:13.
his off-spring shall not be satisfied with bread] His children shall perish for hunger.
Job 27:15
shall be buried in death] As soon as they are dead, without funerall pomp.
his widows shall not weep] Psalms 78:64. They that are neerest to them shall not weep for them, but be glad they are gone. Or, they shall not hire mourners for them, Jeremiah 22:18. Ecclesiastes 12:5.
Job 27:17
the just shall put it on] Ecclesiastes 2:16. Proverbs 28:8.
Job 27:18
He buildeth his house as a moth] His house is easily cast down, as a moth is destroyed, chap. 8. 14. Psalms 39:11. and Psalms 58:9. Or, as a booth, which lasts but while the fruit is gathered for the watchman to lodge in.
Job 27:19
he shall not be gathered] Buried honourably with his fathers. He shall die in captivitie.
he openeth his eyes] A man may look for him, but he cannot finde him, Psalms 37:36.
Job 27:20
Terrours take hold on him as waters] Chap. 18. 11.
a tempest stealeth him away in the night] Suddenly as a deluge coming in the night. God sends many judgements in the night, that they may be more terrible, as not expected, Exodus 12:29. 2 Kings 19:35. Isaiah 15:1. Daniel 5:30.
Job 27:21
The east-winde carrieth him away] Hosea 13:15.
Job 27:22
he would sain flee] Heb. in fleeing he would flee.
Job 27:23
Men shall clap their hands at him] In sign of wonderment, and derision, as 1 Kings 9, 8. Lamentations 2:15. Ezekiel 25:6.
