Chapter 9 THE LORD OF THE EARTH THE MISERY AT THE OF THE FIRST SIX CH.8-9

  1. Fallen angels from the pith released - The 5th trumpet. 9:1-12
  2. Fallen angels by the river released - The 6th trumpet. 9:13-21

Revelation 9:1-12

  1. Fallen angels from the pith released - The 5th trumpet. 9:1-12 I. In v.1-12 we have the 1st woe of the angel. 8:13

II. The woe is similar to the 8th plague of God on Egypt. Ex.10:1-20 V.1 a) Star falls to the earth -

I. The star that falls from heaven is a heavenly creature: Rev.1:20; Job 38:7 A. The heavenly creature falls down like Satan fell down. Luke 10:18 B. Satan’ s 4 downfalls:

  1. From his position in the 3rd heaven. Luke 10:18

  2. From his position in the 2nd heaven . Rev.12:9

  3. From his position on the earth. Rev.20:1-3

  4. From his position to eternal fire. Rev.20:10 II. The fallen creature is an angel v.11 and not a cherub - Its not Satan for he is a cherub. Ezek.28:14-16 III. The bottomless pit is a place lower than Hades, where God has imprisoned the special disobedient fallen angels. (High Evil Contamination) Jude 6-7 A. This place is called in Greek: Tartaros 2.Peter 2:4 B. The angels that is in Tartaros is imprisoned. 2.Peter.2:4; Jude 6 C. Tartaros is not Hades but a place that is bottomless:

  5. Hades is the place of imprisonment of human spirits.

  6. Tartaros is the place of imprisonment of fallen angels.

D. The fallen angels that are imprisoned in Tartaros, are connected to some extreme sexual sins on earth. Jude 6-7; Gen.6:1-7 E. Demons fear the bottomless pit. Luke 8:31 F. Satan will be locked up in this place for a thousand years. Rev.20:1-3 G. The beast will ascend from the bottomless pit. 11:7; 17:8

IV. The fallen heavenly creature is given the authority to open the ancient pit of high dangerous species of fallen angels.

V.2 b) Smoke arises from the pit -

I. God dwells in a glory cloud but these fallen angels in an ugly dark like smoke. Psalms 37:20 II. These smoke can either be a spiritual darkness that is released or a real dark cloud that covers the earth.

V.3 c) Swarm of locusts -

I. These fallen angels has 6 characters about them:

  1. Locusts. v.3

  2. Scorpions v.3

  3. Horses. v.7

  4. Men. v.7

  5. Woman. v.8

  6. Lions. v.8

II. These locusts are not real locusts but fallen angels, it’ s said that the locusts have a king (Abbaddon) over them v.12, real locusts have no king. Prov.30:27 III. The fallen angels are described as being locust like because of the swarming appearance. IV. Joel ch.1-2 describes an invading army as locusts.

V. The fallen angels are given scorpion like Power, which is a Poison that causes severe Pain.

V.4 d) Sphere of their power -

I. Real locusts eats all the green vegetation, these demonic creatures harms not the green vegetation but all that are not among the 144.000 sealed Jews.

II. The great tribulation saints could perhaps experience some level of suffering by this demonic horde.

V.5 e) Strikes like scorpions -

I. These fallen angels would be more than willing to kill, but they needed the authority from Him who has the keys of death and Hades to do it. 1:18

II. The period of their activity is limited to 5 months, they are not allowed by God to torment for 3½ years - The great tribulation period.

III. One of the most severe Poisonous Pain is a scorpion’ s sting and the fallen angels causes such a pain for 150 days or 3600 long hours on every man that is not sealed. Joel 2:6 V.6 f) Seeking death -

What man fears most they seek (death) and what death likes most it doesn’ t (kills).

V.7-8 g) Shape of the locusts -

I. The faces of locusts’ looks like horses, these fallen angels were like horses prepared for battle - They are ready. Joel 2:4-5 II. The fallen angels wear crowns (Gr. stephanos), which is a victors crown not a royal crown (Gr. diadem).

III. They have human appearance (Good angels looks like man). Gen.18:1-2; 19:1-11; Heb.13:2 IV. These fallen angels appear to have long hair.

V. They are wild beings that devours like a lion but without killing. 1.Peter 5:8; Joel 1:6; 2:4-5

V.9 h) Sound of the locusts -

I. They are Protected and Prepared for battle with breastplates

II. The fallen angelic horde flying in the air sounded like a whole army as they run noisily into battle. Joel 2:4-5 V.10 i) Specified period of pain -

Real locusts live about 5 months, from spring through late summer.

V.11 j) Supreme demon of the pit -

I. Locusts have no king, which means these locusts are not real locusts. Prov.30:27 II. The king is an angel and then the locusts must be angels too.

III. The name of the king is:

A. (Heb. abaddon) means destruction.

B. (Gr. apollyon) means destroyer.

IV. Two fallen heavenly creatures is mentioned in Scripture:

A. A cherub named Satan, Lucifer and Devil.

B. An angel named Abaddon and Apollyon.

V.12 k) Severity to come -

There lack two trumpets to sound.

Revelation 9:13-21

  1. Fallen angels by the river released - The 6th trumpet. 9:13-21 I. An invasion of the demonic world, these aliens has been working undercover, but now they are beginning their final conquering.

II. In verses 1-12 we have the demonic airborne army,

In verses 13-21 we have the demonic ground troops.

III. There are two ways to interpret this section:

A. The army is a real human army.

B. The army is a spiritual demonic army.

IV. Why does God allow this demonic invasion of the earth?

A. They refused Divine invasion and are now left with a Devilish invasion.

B. They refused a blessed Heavenly invasion and are now cursed with a Hellish invasion.

V.13 a) Heard a voice from before the altar -

From before the golden altar of incense a voice speaks to the 6th angel

V.14 b) Hostages released -

I. Since these 4 angels are bound they are fallen angels.

II. The River Euphrates is a river that begins in the Armenian mountains and ends in the Persian Gulf, it has a course of about 1,700 miles.

III. The 4 angels here are not the 4 angels of 7:1-3, because these in 9:14 are connected to a river while the others to the whole earth.

IV. Why were they bound at this location at the River of Euphrates?

A. Sin began in the Garden of Eden, which perhaps where located by the region of the River of Euphrates. Gen.2:10-14 B. The first murder was perhaps committed there. Gen.4:1-15 C. The tower of Babel was perhaps erected here. Gen.11:1-9 D. Babylon was founded at this region; idolatry and witchcraft were nurtured and raised up at Babylon. V.15 c) Humans killed -

I. These angels are released at the precise day and hour.

II. The demonic horde kills 33% of mankind.

III. The world’ s population is reduced by now with a minimum of 58 percent.

A. First the Church is raptured and the population is reduced perhaps by billions

B. 25% of mankind was killed by the 4th seal. 6:7-8

C. Many are killed by the 3-5th seal. 6:12-16

D. Innumerable saints are killed in the great tribulation. 7:9, 14

E. Then the demonic horde kills 33% of mankind.

V.16 d) Horrific Horde of Horseman -

It’ s a 200 million great demonic army.

V.17 e) Horses of Heat -

I. The demonic creatures had fiery red, dark blue and bright yellow breastplates.

II. The horses that this demonic horde rides has 2 characteristics:

A. Heads like lions.

B. Mouths that breath fire, smoke and brimstone.

III. The army is not a natural but demonic army for natural horses:

A. Do not breath fire, smoke and brimstone

B. Do not have heads of lions,

C. Do not have serpents’ tails with mouths on it. 9:19

IV. Good angels have horses and why not fallen angels! 2.Kings 2:11; 6:13-17 V.18 f) Hurting Humans three ways - Their Plagues

A third of mankind is killed by the fire, smoke and brimstone.

V.19 g) Harming by their tails and mouths - Their Power

I. Like the airborne demonic horde 9:3, 5, 10 this ground troop demons has power in their tails.

II. The airborne demonic horde had tails like scorpions, the ground troop demons has tails like serpents.

III. The tails has mouths by which they harm man.

V.20-21h) Hardened Hearts -

I. The rest of mankind do not repent even after experiencing attack by these demonic creatures.

II. Mankind do not repent from:

A. Worship of idols. (demonic reverence). Deu.4:28; 32:17; Psalms 106:37; 115:5-7; 135:15-17; Isaiah 44:12-20; Dan.5:23; 1.Cor.10:20 B. Murderous actions (demonic character).

C. Sorcery (demonic devotion).

Sorcery (Gr. pharmakia) from which comes the English word “pharmacy” - The use of drugs. Ex.22:18; Lev.20:27; Deu.18:10-12; 1.Sam.28:7; Acts 8:9; 13:8; 19:13-15 D. Sexual immorality (demonic perversion).

E. Thefts (demonic lawlessness).
