Isaiah 19:16 Summary
This verse says that one day, the Egyptians will be very afraid and weak, like women, because they will see the powerful hand of the Lord of Hosts raised against them. This means that God will show them His great power and authority, and they will be unable to stand against Him (see Psalm 46:10 for a similar idea). The Lord of Hosts is a name for God that emphasizes His power and control over all things, and when He raises His hand, nations will tremble with fear. This verse reminds us that God is in control of all nations and peoples, and that He will one day demonstrate His power and authority to all the world (see Romans 11:36 for a similar statement about God's sovereignty).
Frequently Asked Questions
What does it mean for the Egyptians to be like women in Isaiah 19:16?
In this context, it means they will lose their strength and courage, becoming weak and fearful, much like the way women were often perceived in ancient times as being more vulnerable (see Jeremiah 51:30 for a similar comparison).
Why will the Egyptians tremble with fear?
The Egyptians will tremble with fear because they will recognize the power and authority of the LORD of Hosts, who is brandishing His hand against them, demonstrating His mighty power (see Psalm 2:5 for a similar image of God's wrath).
Is this verse talking about a specific historical event or a future prophecy?
While the verse does not specify a particular event, its language and tone suggest a future time when God will intervene in Egypt's affairs, possibly in relation to the events described in the surrounding verses (see Isaiah 19:14-15 for the context).
How does this verse relate to the rest of the Bible's teaching on God's judgment?
This verse is consistent with the Bible's broader theme of God's judgment on nations that oppose Him, as seen in passages like Isaiah 13:6-16 and Ezekiel 25:12-17, where God's wrath is poured out on nations that have rebelled against Him.

- How can I cultivate a deeper sense of reverence and awe for God's power, as described in this verse?
- In what ways can I apply the lesson of this verse to my own life, recognizing that God is sovereign over all nations and peoples?
- What are some ways in which the church can demonstrate the power and authority of God to a world that often seems to ignore or reject Him?
