Mark 16:1 [ Mk ] And when the sabbath was past*, [*Note: The sabbath ends on Saturday at sunset.]

Luk 24:1 [Mt Lk Jn] Now [Mt ] in the end of the sabbath,
Mark 16:2 [ Mk Lk ] very [ Mk Lk Jn] early in the morning, [Mt ] as it began to dawn toward [Mt Mk Lk Jn] the first [day] of the week, [ Lk ] they, and certain [others] with them, [Mt Lk Jn] came, [ Jn] when it was yet dark, [Mt ] to see the sepulchre, [ Lk ] bringing the spices which they had prepared.
[Mt ] And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.

[ Jn] runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved,* and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.

Luk 24:4 [ Lk ] And it came to pass, as [ ] [the women at the sepulchre] [ Lk ] were much perplexed thereabout, [ Mk ] they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment;
[ ] [and then], [ Lk ] behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:

[ Lk ] Remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
[ Lk ] saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.

Luk 24:11 [ Lk ] And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.
190. Peter & John Inspect the Tomb [Luk 24:12 & John 20:3-10]
John 20:3 [Lk Jn] Then Peter [ Jn] and that other disciple* [*Note: This is John himself. See John 21:24.] [Lk ] arose and [ Jn] went forth and came [Lk Jn] to the sepulchre.
John 20:4 [ Jn] So they
[Lk Jn] ran [ Jn] both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.
John 20:5 [ Jn] And he stooping down, [and looking in], saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.
John 20:6 [ Jn] Then cometh Simon Peter following him:
[Lk Jn] and [Lk ] stooping down, he [ Jn] went into the sepulchre, and [Lk Jn] seeth the linen clothes lying [Lk ] by themselves,
[ Jn] and the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
John 20:8 [ Jn] Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.
John 20:9 [ Jn] For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.

191. Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene [Mark 16:9-11 & John 20:11-18]
[ Jn] But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, [and looked] into the sepulchre,
[ Jn] and seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
[ Jn] And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.
John 20:14 [ Jn] And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.

192. Jesus Appears to the Women
[Mt] And as [ ] [the women]
[Mt] went to tell his disciples,* behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.
[*Note: There appears to have been more than one group of disciples lodged about the city (John 20:2).]
[Mt] Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.
193. The Soldiers Bribed
[Mt] Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done.
Mat 28:12 [Mt] And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,
Mat 28:13 [Mt] saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him [away] while we slept.
Mat 28:14 [Mt] And if this come to the governor’s ears, we will persuade him, and secure you.
[Mt] So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.
194. Jesus Appears to Luke, Cleopas, & Peter [Mark 16:12-13; Luk 24:13-35; & 1Co 15:5a (...seen of Cephas,)]
[Mk Lk ] And [Mk ] after this, [ Lk ] that same day, behold, [Mk Lk ] two of them [Mk ] walked, and [Mk Lk ] went [Mk ] into the country [ Lk ] to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem [about] threescore furlongs.
Luk 24:14 [ Lk ] And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
Luk 24:15 [ Lk ] And it came to pass, that, [Mk Lk ] while [ Lk ] they communed [together] and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
Luk 24:16 [ Lk ] But their eyes were holden that they should not know him;
[ ] [for] [Mk ] he appeared unto [ ] [them] [Mk ] in another form.
[ Lk ] And he said unto them, What manner of communications [are] these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?
[ Lk ] And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas*, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?
[*Note: The other man was evidently Luke himself.]
[ Lk ] And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
Luk 24:20 [ Lk ] and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.
[ Lk ] But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.
Luk 24:22 [ Lk ] Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;
[ Lk ] and when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.
[ Lk ] And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found [it] even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.
Luk 24:25 [ Lk ] Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
Luk 24:26 [ Lk ] ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
[ Lk ] And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
Luk 24:28 [ Lk ] And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.
[ Lk ] But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.
[ Lk ] And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed [it], and brake, and gave to them.
Luk 24:31 [ Lk ] And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
[ Lk ] And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

[ Lk ] and said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
[ Lk ] and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

John 20:24 [Jn ] But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
[Jn ] The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
[Jn ] And
1Co 15:5 b [John 1:1-51C] after
[Jn ] eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: [then] came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst [ 1C] of the twelve*,
[*Note: Though Judas Iscariot was dead (Mat 27:5), the apostles were still called "the twelve." Judas was soon replaced with Matthias (Acts 1:26).] [Jn ] and said, Peace [be] unto you.
[Jn ] Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust [it] into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
John 20:28 [Jn ] And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
[Jn ] Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed [are] they that have not seen, and [yet] have believed.
John 20:30 [Jn ] And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
[Jn ] but these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
Later Events 197. Jesus Appears by the Sea of Galilee
[Jn] After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he [himself].
[Jn] There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the [sons] of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.
[Jn] Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.
John 21:4 [Jn] But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.
John 21:5 [Jn] Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.
[Jn] And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.
[Jn] Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved* saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt [his] fisher’s coat [unto him], (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.

[Jn] And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.
John 21:9 [Jn] As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.
John 21:10 [Jn] Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.
[Jn] Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.
[Jn] Jesus saith unto them, Come [and] dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.
John 21:13 [Jn] Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.
John 21:14 [Jn] This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.
[Jn] So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, [son] of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
[Jn] He saith to him again the second time, Simon, [son] of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
[Jn] He saith unto him the third time, Simon, [son] of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
[Jn] Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry [thee] whither thou wouldest not.
[Jn] This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.
[Jn] Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved* following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?
[*Note: This is John himself. See John 21:24.]
John 21:21 [Jn] Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what [shall] this man [do]?
John 21:22 [Jn] Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what [is that] to thee? follow thou me.
[Jn] Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what [is that] to thee?
[Jn] This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.
[Jn] And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
198. The Great Commission [Mat 28:16-20; Mark 16:15-18; & 1Co 15:6]

[ ] [and] [ 1C] above five hundred brethren at once* [*Note: This is the only prearranged post-resurrection appearance of Jesus; hence the large crowd.] [ ] [were gathered together];
[ 1C] of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

[ Ac ] which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

[ Ac ] And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James [the son] of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas [the brother] of James.
[ Ac ] These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
201. Judas Replaced [Acts 1:15-17; Acts 1:20-26]
[Ac] And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)
[Ac] Men [and] brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.
Acts 1:17 [Ac] For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.
[Ac] For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.
Acts 1:21 [Ac] Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
[Ac] beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.
Acts 1:23 [Ac] And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.
[Ac] And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all [men], shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,
[Ac] that he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.
Acts 1:26 [Ac] And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
202. The Day of Pentecost
Acts 2:1 [Ac] And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
[Ac] And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Acts 2:3 [Ac] And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
[Ac] And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 2:5 [Ac] And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
[Ac] Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
Acts 2:7 [Ac] And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
Acts 2:8 [Ac] And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
[Ac] Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
[Ac] Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
Acts 2:11 [Ac] Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
Acts 2:12 [Ac] And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?
Acts 2:13 [Ac] Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
[Ac] But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all [ye] that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
Acts 2:15 [Ac] for these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is [but] the third hour of the day.
Acts 2:16 [Ac] But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
[Ac] And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
Acts 2:18 [Ac] and on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
Acts 2:19 [Ac] and I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
[Ac] the sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:
Acts 2:21 [Ac] and it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
[Ac] Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
[Ac] him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:
[Ac] whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
[Ac] For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
Acts 2:26 [Ac] therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:
Acts 2:27 [Ac] because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
Acts 2:28 [Ac] Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
[Ac] Men [and] brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
[Ac] Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
[Ac] he seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.
Acts 2:32 [Ac] This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
[Ac] Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
[Ac] For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
Acts 2:35 [Ac] until I make thy foes thy footstool.
[Ac] Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
[Ac] Now when they heard [this], they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men [and] brethren, what shall we do?
[Ac] Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
[Ac] For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, [even] as many as the Lord our God shall call.
Acts 2:40 [Ac] And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
[Ac] Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added [unto them] about three thousand souls.
203. The Early Church [Mark 16:20; Luk 24:53; & Acts 2:42-47]
[ Ac] And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
Acts 2:43 [ Ac] And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
Acts 2:44 [ Ac] And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
Acts 2:45 [ Ac] and sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all [men], as every man had need.
[ Lk Ac] And [ Ac] they [ Lk ] were [ Lk Ac] continuing [ Ac] daily with one accord [ Lk Ac] in the temple, [ Ac] and breaking bread from house to house, [ ] [and] [ Ac] did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
Acts 2:47 [ Lk Ac] praising [ Lk ] and blessing [ Lk Ac] God, [ Ac] and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
