Josiah by name. Cyrus is the only other so foretold (177 years before). Josiah knew (2 Kings 23:17, 2 Kings 23:18). Cyrus knew (2 Chronicles 36:22, 2 Chronicles 36:23. Isaiah 44:28).
offer (in sacrifice) = slay, or slaughter. App-43.
men’s: human. Hebrew. ’adam. App-14.
shall be. This was fulfilled in 2 Kings 23:16 (360 years later).

a sign. We have similar signs in Exodus 3:12. 2 Kings 19:29; 2 Kings 20:8. Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 8:18.

put forth his hand. One of the eleven rulers who thus assaulted Jehovah’s witnesses. See note on Exodus 10:28.

an angel spake. A solemn warning for all who listen to any revelation outside Scripture which purports to come from God, even though an “old prophet” asserts it. Compare Galatians 1:1, Galatians 1:8, Galatians 1:9. Of all such it may be said “he lied unto him”.

disobeyed = rebelled against. The same expression used of Moses and Aaron at Meribah (Numbers 20:24; Numbers 27:14). Safety found only in the path of obedience. Compare 1 Kings 13:26.
