- The reading “Lebbaeus called Thaddaeus” is a combination of the other two readings. Since “Thaddaeus” is found in several types of ancient text, and “Lebbaeus” only in the Western type of text, “Thaddaeus” would seem to be original.

- “Beelzebul” is the Greek spelling of the Hebrew word “Baal-Zebub,” which means “lord of flies.” It has passed through Latin into English as Beelzebub. It is used in the New Testament to refer to the devil.
