The name “Judea” seems to have been used here in the sense “the land of the Jews” rather than referring to the southern part of Palestine as is usually. Because of its usual sense, the word was changed by copyists to “Jews” or to the reading found in the parallel passages of Mat 4:23 and Mark 1:39, which read “Galilee.”
